Sabina DeWitt ’92 Otteman has been working at Hope College in Philanthropy & Engagement since May 2012. She began as director of the Hope Fund and is now serving as donor relations development director. She is responsible for connecting with Hope alumni, parents and friends on behalf of the Hope Fund. She also oversees and implements special projects throughout the year, including the Business and Industry Community Campaign, class reunions, and various alumni receptions. She also works to thank Hope donors in unique and interesting ways.

• BA, international studies and political science with a minor in German, Hope College, 1992

Professional experience

Before coming to Hope, Sabina worked in the political and nonprofit fields, most recently as the development coordinator for the Zeeland Education Foundation. She was also employed at Faith Reformed Church in Zeeland as communications coordinator.

Why I love Hope

Sabina believes that Hope's greatest asset is its people. Sabina loves Hope for the opportunity to be around these wonderful people every day. Being with a team of talented and fun-loving individuals makes each day at work a pleasure. She considers herself blessed to be working daily toward Hope's mission of educating students for lives of leadership and service in the context of the historic Christian faith.

Outside the college

Sabina and her husband Andy Otteman ’91 were married in 1993 in Dimnent Chapel and have three children: Christian, C.J. and Marlies. She and her husband enjoy volunteering at Zeeland Public Schools and attending their children's many fine arts and sports activities. They love living in Zeeland and "Feel the Zeel" as much as their time allows.

Sabina enjoys exercise and in 2010 accomplished a personal goal of completing the Chicago Marathon. She loves reading and trying new restaurants in the area. She and Andy also enjoy monthly gatherings of their Euchre Club, a group of nine Hope College/Zeeland couples that meets once a month for dinner, games and other high-spirited activities. They have two cats, Rocki and Mimi, and a two dogs, Roxy and Frida.
